Student Awards

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine offers several awards for Graduate Students and Post-doctoral scientists for excellence in academic research.

Master’s Student Symposium Award

This award recognizes students in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biochemistry department’s Master’s Program who have shown excellence in year-long thesis projects. Thesis students are required to conduct a formal presentation that is judged based on various criteria including knowledge of content, its organization, and presentation/communication skills.

George V. Vahouny Memorial Award for Graduate Student Excellence

This award honors a Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine graduate student who has progressed to the second phase of the Ph.D. program having met the eligibility requirements of excellent academic record, passing the qualifying exam, and contributing to research and departmental activities.

Allan Goldstein Postdoctoral Research Excellence Award

This award recognizes the exceptional contribution of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine Postdoctoral Scientists (Fellows and Associates) to their respective field. This Award is determined based on publications in peer-reviewed journals, an oral presentation of research, and other scientific recognition/contributions.
