Learn How AI Is Revolutionizing Biomedicine: New Course BIOC-6225 launches in Spring 2026

The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences is proud to announce the launch of a new graduate-level course, BIOC-6225: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Biomedical Research, starting in Spring 2026.

As artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) continue to revolutionize the field of biomedical science, this course is designed to give students a comprehensive foundation in how these tools are reshaping research and healthcare. Through topics ranging from predictive modeling and large language models to multi-omics data analysis, students will explore how computational approaches drive innovation in diagnostics, drug discovery, and precision medicine.

The course is tailored for learners at all levels — from those new to AI to experienced researchers seeking to deepen their understanding — and emphasizes both conceptual knowledge and hands-on applications.

Course Details:

  • Credits: 2

  • Schedule: Mondays, 4:10 – 6:00 PM

  • First Class: January 12, 2026

  • Location: Ross Hall, Himmelfarb B103

Course Director: Dr. Raja Mazumder
Co-Directors: Dr. Patrick McNeely and Dr. Robel Kahsay

Offered as part of the MS in Bioinformatics & Molecular Biochemistry program, BIOC-6225 welcomes graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and professionals eager to apply AI-driven approaches to biomedical research.
