We are proud to share an exciting milestone from the Horvath Lab , highlighting the contributions of PI, Dr. Anelia Horvath, and collaborators in the current issue (March 2026) of the Journal of Precision Medicine: Health and Disease.
The article, “Comparative transcriptomics analysis of histone deacetylases, transcription factors, and ion channel genes in human iPSC-cardiomyocytes vs. the adult human heart,” provides one of the first direct, large-scale comparisons between human iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes and adult human heart tissue using deep RNA sequencing and advanced computational modeling.
The findings show strong similarity in gene expression-especially for cardiac ion channels and transcription factors-supporting iPSC-CMs as a reliable, scalable human model.
Key highlights:
• Overlap in electrophysiology-related gene expression between iPSC-CMs and adult heart tissue.
• Key roles of HDACs, SIRTs, and transcription factors in ion channel regulation.
• Epigenetic influence on cardiac excitability and function.
• iPSC-CMs as a platform for cardiotoxicity testing and precision medicine.
